Yes! This building is an army barracks from the 1940’s. The army practiced beach landings, right here in Carrabelle, for the D-day invasion in France. The barracks housed many soldiers and military personnel. After the war, this barrack was converted into a beach home. This ‘ole girl is in her 80’s! With age she has weathered many vicious storms and hurricanes; but, she is still standing. We know she has faults as her floors are uneven in a few places; but, she is a gem. Many beach goers rent the barracks because it is on ground level making it easy for the elderly and families with small children. We hope your vacation will be filled with wonder as you walk the beach and spot many sea life.
Beach Barracks is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, bay front beach home which has an old Florida feel with modern luxuries . This home is tailored to fit everyone’s needs. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances and is open to the living room which has a 65” flat screen Samsung Smart TV loaded with many streaming apps - Apple TV, Netflix, Prime Video, etc. With plenty of sitting spaces, you can enjoy breakfast with a panoramic view of the bay or feast like kings at the large custom made pedestal dining room table. With 4 bedrooms, this beach home sleeps 8 comfortably. There is one full bathroom inside; and, a full bathroom outside making washing up from the beach easy! Places to visit in the surrounding area include: Tate's Hell Nature Trail, the Historic Carrabelle Lighthouse and Museum, Camp Gordon Johnston World War II Museum, Dog Island Ferry excursions, charter fishing, kayaking, cycling paths across the road, glass-bottom boat rides at Wakulla Springs, Panacea's Gulf Specimen Marine Lab (with touch pools for children), Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve, a variety of local seafood eateries and a local supermarkets.
Close by is the beautiful St. James Bay Golf Course and Resort 370 Acres of Golf Community, Resort Style 18 hole Play golf course designed by Robert Walker.
